OBJECTIVE:CHARACTER ILLUSTRATION

I choose, to illustrate one of my favorite characters Huey Freeman from the adult swim hit The Boondocks. The objective was to capture Huey’s character in a unique and deep way. What I love about Huey’s character is he is honest about how he perceives the world, and isn’t afraid to hurt anyone’s feelings over the truth.
Huey’s massive intelligence about complex questions, gives him the edge in any debate or conversation he has about his ideals. If you ask any true fan of the show, you can get the description of calling Huey blue.

THE INSPIRATION

I thought capturing him in a monochromatic blue piece would capture him in a way that I haven’t found online. Using one color to capture the essence of Huey Freeman’s true character, understands the character on a deeper level.
One fun thing about the project was to try and use a monochromatic color scheme, I never had done something like that before and it was a lovely challenge for my designing skills.

THE RESULTS

Even though Huey may just be seen as just a fictional drawing the opinions and statements he has about the culture he sees, is more deep and real than most people in the media light.

Conclusion

Lastly I had to add text to give context to this character, which I choose to do in a light warm yellow, to help it pop up against the cool background. I enjoy the final result I achieved, and I feel I went beyond the objective by trying out a new style.
